CELEBRATION OF SHARON’S LIFE SERVICE: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at First Christian Church, 206 North Range, Oblong, IL with Bro. Dee Wolfe officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery.

Sharon E. Highsmith, 76, Oblong, IL passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL from injuries she received in an auto accident.

Sharon was born on November 17, 1938 in Illiopolis, IL and was the daughter of Lawrence O. Montgomery and Ruby E. (Rice) Montgomery.  On August 17, 1958 she married Paul Douglas “P. D.” Highsmith.

Sharon was retired from First Financial Bank of Oblong, IL.  She also worked at Peoples Building & Loan, Crawford County Courthouse, Oblong Oracle, Oblong High School and her first job was at Farmers State Bank in Mt. Pulaski, IL.  She was a graduate from Mt. Pulaski High School in 1956.  Sharon was an avid reader, bridge player, Wheel of Fortune game player, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved watching game shows.  Her 1974 bowling team won the National Bowling Tournament.

Sharon is survived by her husband, P. D. Highsmith of Oblong, IL; a son and daughter-in-law Brian and Kathy Highsmith of Lindsay, OK; a daughter and son-in-law Lori and Ron Miller, PLano, TX; two brothers and sisters-in-law Larry Lee and Betty Montgomery and Roy and Mary Ann Montgomery; 2 sisters-in-law Ann Rogers-Weathers, Scottsdale, AZ and Sherry Smarik, Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren and spouses Michelle and Keith McCully, Blake and Krystle Highsmith, Garret and Kaycee Highsmith, Taylor Brice and Cassidy Brice; 4 great-grandchildren Blakley and Whitley Highsmith, Ryker McCully and Cole Malone; along with several nephews and a niece.

Preceding Sharon in death were her parents, Larry and Ellen Montgomery and grandson Zach Cantrel.
